Internally Rifled Boiler Tubes

Internally rifled boiler tubes have helical ribs on their inner surface. The rib geometry, including the number of ribs and lead angle, is specified according to the boiler design and project requirements.

These tubes are used in boiler applications that specify rifled tubing, including supercritical boiler systems. The suitable tube grade and dimensions depend on the operating conditions and applicable product standard.

Uses

Internally rifled tubes can be specified for boiler heating surfaces where the design calls for an internally ribbed tube. Applications may include selected superheater and other high-heat-load sections.

The required grade, rib configuration, and dimensions should be confirmed against the equipment design.

Product Characteristics

The inner rib geometry is a key product feature. Important parameters include outer diameter, wall thickness, number of ribs, and rib lead angle. These details should be agreed upon as part of the product specification.

The supplied product reference includes the following development examples:

  • In 2004, the company produced small-outer-diameter alloy rifled tubes for supercritical boilers, including T2 tubes measuring 38.1 × 7.5 mm.
  • 15CrMoG rifled tubes measuring 28.6 × 5.8 mm were used in China’s first ultra-supercritical boiler, according to the supplied reference.
  • In 2009, an optimized rifled tube design with a larger lead angle and higher rib height was successfully developed, according to the supplied reference.
